Mar 23, 2026 at 10:39 AMDNV has introduced a new AI-powered tool called „RuleAgent,“ designed to assist professionals in the maritime industry in managing the company’s rules and standards more efficiently. According to DNV, „RuleAgent“ was developed to reduce the time users spend searching for regulatory material. The tool allows users to formulate questions in natural language and receive results accordingly.
Navigation through complex regulations
„Maritime regulations are extensive and continuously evolving,“ DNV stated in the announcement. The challenge of navigating through more than 30,000 pages of DNV rules can be complicated for professionals. „RuleAgent“ offers a solution by presenting content in real-time, enabling faster identification of relevant regulatory sections. DNV aims to reduce the effort typically required to find information across various documents.
„Digitalization continues to transform maritime operations, and DNV is committed to leading this development responsibly and practically,“ said Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria (pictured), Interim CEO Maritime at DNV.
The tool operates by searching the DNV database for rules and standards for relevant paragraphs and highlighting them for users. Additionally, brief summaries and links to the sources are provided, allowing users to verify the information. When specific information about customer vessels is available, „RuleAgent“ utilizes the corresponding ship type and class notations to further narrow the search and offer regulatory guidance.
