HHLA TK Estonia will be the first terminal in Europe to deploy battery-powered RTG gantry cranes. Two new units from Konecranes are set to go into operation at the Muuga site by the end of the year, enabling a fully electric shift operation.
The cranes are equipped with a battery system of 296 kWh and can operate for up to eight hours without external power supply. This helps to avoid local emissions and allows for more flexible energy use.
Step towards electrification
The investment is part of the strategy to gradually electrify terminal operations. At the same time, existing infrastructures are being modernized and adapted to new requirements.
Technology for continuous operation
The new cranes are designed for demanding operating conditions and will complement the existing fleet. The autonomous operation provides additional flexibility in daily operations.
With the introduction of this technology, HHLA TK Estonia is expanding the use of electric solutions in port operations and setting new impulses for the development of low-emission terminal processes.
