WinGD and Envision show the way to cost parity
Mar 19, 2026 at 11:11 AMEastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) and Bound4blue (B4B) have completed the second installation of e-sails in the EPS fleet. Three 22 m high units were installed on the newbuild tanker „Pacific Sunstone“ in Jiangsu (China). Following the retrofit of the „Pacific Sentinel,“ this marks the first integration into a newbuild.
The technology is considered highly applicable in the tanker segment, as it does not require Atex certification and takes up little space. E-Sails generate significantly more lift compared to rigid sails without affecting the air draft.
The installation was integrated into the construction process, avoiding structural adjustments and delays. Experiences from the predecessor vessel indicate savings in energy demand and fuel consumption, as well as additional benefits under favorable wind conditions.
The systems are intended to relieve the main propulsion, reduce operating costs and support regulatory requirements.
