Mar 19, 2026 at 9:45 AMCIRCLE S.p.A., a company listed on Euronext Growth Milan, has presented a project for the digitization and automation of access gates at an intermodal hub in Northern Italy through its subsidiary eXyond. The total value of the project amounts to approximately 280,000 EUR. The aim is to optimize the processes for the entry and exit of vehicles and to ensure the traceability of transport movements.
Automation of Access Control
The project includes the development of an advanced digital system that enables the management, monitoring, and tracking of export and transit movements of goods at an intermodal terminal. This is in line with national standards for electronic freight information (eFTI) and electronic consignment notes (e-CMR). The initial implementation foresees the automation of two lanes, one for entry and one for exit, within an access area with a total of four lanes.
The system will operate around the clock and is designed to ensure data interoperability with external platforms. Technologically, the solution includes systems for vehicle detection and classification, license plate recognition, and documentation of the condition of intermodal transport units. Additionally, a Gate Operating System (GOS) will be implemented, enabling the collection and archiving of transit data as well as real-time management of the installed hardware.
Integration with Existing Systems
The solution developed by eXyond also includes the provision of a connector that enables interconnectivity with eFTI Italy and e-CMR. This supports the digitization of the logistics chain and meets the specific requirements of the Interporto. The connector is designed to communicate with the Terminal Operating System (TOS) via APIs and allows for the receipt and verification of electronic transport information.
From a financial perspective, the total amount for delivery and installation is approximately 280,000 EUR, with an estimated completion time of around six months. The comprehensive solution includes two complete vehicle systems, the GOS management software and hardware, as well as the connector for interconnectivity.
Luca Abatello, CEO of the CIRCLE Group, commented on the project: “The initiative represents a concrete application of the group’s expertise in the digitization and automation of intermodal logistics centers. The integration of gate automation and intelligent data collection supports the development of efficient and traceable processes.”
With this project, CIRCLE Group and eXyond reaffirm their role as technology partners in the development of advanced solutions that support intermodality and digital flow management.
