Bidfood invests in environmentally friendly cooling systems
Mar 18, 2026 at 2:58 PMThe Rhenus Group has successfully completed the multimodal transport of process equipment and plant components from Austria to the USA. This transport supported the establishment of a large production facility and required precise coordination as well as strict planning of milestones. Several units of the Rhenus Group in Europe and North America worked closely together to meet the complex requirements of the project.
Multimodal Transport Solution
The transport involved approximately 2,840 m³ of cargo, packed in 40 oversized boxes and 12 x 40’ containers. The Rhenus Group combined various modes of transport, including road transport, inland shipping, and sea freight, to ensure a comprehensive end-to-end solution. Due to the critical importance of the equipment and tight contractual deadlines, high reliability and operational control along the entire transport chain were required.
The cargo was initially transported to Krems in Austria, where it was transshipped at the Rhenus Donauhafen Krems, a strategically located inland port. This port connects road, rail, and inland shipping and is equipped with modern infrastructure. After transshipment, it continued by inland vessel operated by Rhenus Partnership Austria to the Port of Antwerp. There, the transition to overseas transport, coordinated by Rhenus Project Logistics, took place. The sea freight led to the Port of Norfolk in Virginia before the cargo was transported to North Carolina, where it reached the project facility.
Central Coordination and Collaboration
Rhenus acted as the central control point throughout the entire process, ensuring smooth communication with the customer. Thomas Doblinger, Managing Director of Rhenus Logistics Austria, emphasized Austria’s strategic role within the global Rhenus network. He highlighted that the expertise of the teams in handling complex industrial goods enabled a precise solution that combined operational processes with environmentally friendly transport modes.
Patrick Schaeffer, Regional CEO Air & Ocean and Overland for Central and Eastern Europe at Rhenus, added that the successful execution of the project demonstrates the strength of the Rhenus network and the commitment to integrated logistics solutions. Moritz Becker, VP Director Rhenus Project Logistics, stated that the use of multimodal transport and close collaboration between regions ensured timely delivery.
The transport illustrates the strategic value of the Rhenus Group’s end-to-end capabilities in project logistics. The successful project execution united the expertise of numerous international Rhenus units and underscores the coordination of the global network.
