Lauer has led the company’s sales, marketing, pricing, and customer service activities for the past 19 years. During this time, he has significantly contributed to the development of business processes.
Chris Scott (right), the current Senior Vice President for Transpacific Services and Corporate Pricing, will succeed Lauer as EVP and CCO following his retirement. Matt Cox, Chairman and CEO of Matson, praised Lauer’s leadership style and emphasized his impact on the company’s development. „John is a role model for leadership at Matson. He embodies values such as teamwork, mutual respect, and integrity,“ said Cox.
Lauer has solidified Matson’s position as a leading provider in the company’s core markets and has driven international growth. This includes the expansion of expedited services between China and the West Coast of the United States, as well as the introduction of the company’s services in new markets in Asia. Additionally, he has advanced technological initiatives to develop new management tools aimed at improving strategic decision-making.
Cox also commented on the succession planning, emphasizing that Scott is well-prepared for the new role due to his 34 years of industry experience. Scott began his career in 1992 in transportation and logistics and joined Matson as a customer service representative in 1995. He has held various leadership positions within the company and was promoted to SVP for Transpacific Services in February 2021.
In this position, he will be succeeded by Tony Crisafulli, the current Director of Trade for Transpacific Services. Crisafulli joined Matson last year and will lead the commercial activities for the company’s China services in his new role, reporting to Scott.
Matson was founded in 1882 and is a provider of ocean transportation and logistics services. The company offers essential ocean freight transportation services for Hawaii, Alaska, and Guam, as well as other island economies in Micronesia. Matson also operates expedited services from China to Long Beach, California, and provides international export services from Alaska to Asia.
