World Star Aviation appoints Scholnick
Mar 16, 2026 at 5:23 PMAtlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. has placed an order for 20 Airbus A350F freighters, which is considered the largest order for this latest model. With this order, Atlas becomes the largest customer of the Airbus A350F. The decision for the A350F freighters is part of the company’s growth strategy, which specializes in air freight logistics and is based in New York.
The A350F freighters are intended to be used in various business models and markets. Michael Steen, CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide, commented on the order: “We are proud to become the largest customer for the Airbus A350F and to secure early delivery positions for this modern freighter platform.” Steen emphasized that the order reflects Atlas’s commitment to maintaining a modern and fuel-efficient fleet of wide-body freighters to best serve both existing and new customers worldwide.
Lars Wagner, CEO Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, welcomed Atlas Air’s decision and described it as a significant moment for the A350F. “The selection of the latest A350F by Atlas Air Worldwide, the first in the USA, solidifies the position of the A350F as the preferred freighter for the most demanding cargo operators in the world,” said Wagner.
The A350F features the largest main deck cargo door in the industry, while the cabin length and capacity are optimized for standard pallets and containers. Over 70% of the aircraft fuselage is made from advanced materials, resulting in a takeoff weight that is 46 tons lower compared to competing models. Additionally, the A350F is the only freighter aircraft that meets the enhanced CO₂ emissions standards set by ICAO, which will come into effect in 2027.
Atlas Air Worldwide is a leading company in outsourced air logistics and operates several subsidiaries, including Atlas Air, Inc., Titan Aviation Holdings, Inc., and Polar Air Cargo Worldwide, Inc. With approximately 5,000 employees, the company serves a diverse customer base in over 300 destinations across 90 countries.
