Mar 13, 2026 at 8:09 AMInternational Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has officially opened the South Luzon Container Terminal (SLCT). The terminal, located at the Bauan International Port in Batangas, is part of a project with an investment volume of 800 million US dollars. It is situated approximately 110 kilometers south of Manila and aims to expand trade opportunities in South Luzon as well as throughout the country, according to the company.
The SLCT will play a central role in supporting industrial and manufacturing activities in the region, according to ICTSI. In particular, it will cater to the cargo requirements associated with energy and industrial projects. The opening ceremony was led by Giovanni Z. Lopez, the acting Secretary of Transportation, and Ariel F. Nepomuceno, the Customs Commissioner. Other government representatives, including Vivencio B. Dizon, Secretary of Public Works and Highways, and Gerville R. Luistro, Congressman of the 2nd District of Batangas, were also present.
Planned capacities and infrastructure
The full development of the terminal is planned for completion by 2028 and will be tailored to the requirements of ultra-large container ships, according to the company. Upon full completion, the SLCT is expected to feature an 800-meter-long quay, a yard area of 38 hectares, and a berth depth of 18 meters. The terminal capacity is projected to exceed two million TEU per year.
