Scandlines launches emission-free freight ferry
Mar 11, 2026 at 2:41 PMA pilots‘ strike is looming at Lufthansa. The trade union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) has called on its members to go on strike on Thursday and Friday (March 12-13). The move is set to last 48 hours and could affect numerous flights of the Lufthansa Group.
Particularly impacted would be departures in Germany, including connections of the Lufthansa brand, its freight subsidiary Lufthansa Cargo, and the regional airline Lufthansa Cityline. The background to this are ongoing unresolved collective bargaining negotiations between the airline and the pilots‘ representatives.
In mid-February there was already a one-day strike as part of the ongoing collective bargaining round. This time, the pilots of the affected airlines have again voted largely in favour of labour action in referendums. A corresponding vote is still ongoing at Eurowings, which is why its employees aren’t expected to participate in the current strikes.
Flights to the Middle East are explicitly not affected. The union justifies this with the tense situation in regional air traffic.
According to VC, the background of the conflict remains unsuccessful discussions regarding company pension schemes at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo. The union is demanding an improved offer from the company.
