Lineage installs solar systems in Spain
Mar 9, 2026 at 9:16 PMThermo Fisher Scientific has opened a new distribution center in Bracetown, County Meath, Ireland. The facility, covering an area of 6,500 square meters, is expected to significantly enhance the company’s storage and distribution capabilities in one of the leading centers for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing worldwide.
With this new facility, Thermo Fisher’s distribution capacity in Ireland will increase by more than 400%. This enables the provision and storage of a broader portfolio of products needed for drug discovery research, clinical development, and commercial manufacturing. The investment aims to strengthen the resilience of the supply chain for the rapidly growing life sciences sector in Ireland and improve local access to essential materials, chemicals, and temperature-sensitive products. By expanding local inventory and accelerating order fulfillment, biopharmaceutical and academic organizations will be able to reduce lead times and support uninterrupted production.
Sustainability in Focus
The new distribution center has been designed with a focus on sustainability and long-term energy efficiency. An on-site solar energy system is expected to generate approximately 120,000 kWh of electricity annually. Additionally, a highly efficient heat pump enables the operation of the facility with 100% renewable energy. The facility has achieved an A2 rating for energy consumption (Building Energy Rating, BER), indicating strong energy efficiency.
Claire Wallace, President of the Research & Safety Market Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific in Europe, emphasized at the opening: „Today’s inauguration reflects our long-term commitment to supporting the dynamic life sciences sector in Ireland. By expanding our local distribution capabilities, we are responding more efficiently to our customers‘ needs and working with them to enhance the quality, speed, and reliability of their supply chains.“
The official opening took place during a ceremony attended by high-profile guests, including Peter Burke, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, and Rory Mullen, Head of Life Sciences at the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) Ireland.
Minister Burke stated that Thermo Fisher Scientific’s significant investment solidifies Ireland’s position as a global leader in life sciences and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. „The new distribution center strengthens the critical supply chain infrastructure and reflects the ongoing confidence in Ireland’s scientific talent and business-friendly environment,“ Burke said.
