Mar 9, 2026 at 9:30 PMIn Spain, two facilities of Lineage, located in Milagro (Navarra) and Las Torres de Cotillas (Murcia), have installed new photovoltaic systems. These solar technologies convert sunlight into electrical energy, which is used to power cooling systems. These systems are crucial for maintaining the required temperatures for product storage. The installations demonstrate how existing cold chain operations can integrate renewable energy infrastructures to address operational efficiency and environmental considerations.
Collaboration with Renewable Energy Experts
In recent months, Lineage has worked with renewable energy specialists from GreenYellow and Grupo Enhol to install the solar panels at the mentioned locations. The two facilities have a combined capacity of 7 MWp and are expected to generate approximately 9.1 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually. This corresponds to a reduction of around 1,500 tons of CO₂ per year, which has a measurable impact on the environment.
The installation of the solar panels has direct effects on Lineage’s cold chain services. By producing electricity on-site, the dependence on external energy sources is reduced, increasing the resilience of the facilities while also meeting evolving European regulatory requirements.
Commitment to Operational Excellence
Raul Fores, Regional Vice President at Lineage, emphasizes: “These solar installations are more than just panels on our roofs. They are a tangible testament to our commitment to operational excellence and responsible business practices.” By simultaneously reducing energy dependence and emissions, a stronger and more resilient network is being built for customers in Spain and beyond.
The three new installations represent a significant advancement in efforts to reduce emissions. The additional capacity of 7 MWp now operational in the Spanish facilities illustrates what can be achieved when operational needs, regulatory requirements, and technical solutions are aligned. Lineage plans to continue exploring opportunities to integrate renewable energy into its network to optimize ongoing operations.
