Mar 6, 2026 at 7:53 AMCN launched the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America on March 4, 2026, with the unveiling of two commemorative locomotives. These locomotives symbolically represent the two cornerstones of American history: independence and innovation. They will be deployed on CN’s U.S. rail network, which stretches from the Gulf Coast through the Midwest to the Great Lakes, transporting both freight and the message of America250 to communities across the country.
The Canadian company has a long history in the U.S. and plays a significant role in the national economy. According to its own reports, CN supports over 25,000 jobs in the U.S., contributes approximately $4.1 billion to the U.S. GDP, and generates tax revenues of $1.7 billion. CN connects farmers and manufacturers with global markets and strengthens domestic supply chains.
Tracy Robinson, President and CEO of CN, stated, „The 250th anniversary of America is an opportunity to reflect on the ideals and visions that have shaped the United States, as well as the innovations that continue to define the country. At CN, we are proud to have played an important role in the history of the nation and look forward to continuing to connect U.S. industries, communities, and supply chains in the future.“
Symbolism of the Locomotives
The first locomotive, numbered „1776“ (photo), features a distinctive design with a „Screaming Eagle,“ representing the bald eagle, a symbol of American independence, strength, and freedom. The „Screaming Eagle“ has deep historical roots and is often associated with the military, where it stands for courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the nation. As a national emblem, the eagle symbolizes sovereignty and determination; in flight, it represents vision, leadership, and the ongoing pursuit of freedom.
The second locomotive, numbered „2026,“ is inspired by the iconic design of Air Force One, which is globally recognized for precision, innovation, and national security. The design underscores America’s leadership in engineering and advanced technology, highlighting the strong connection between transportation innovation and economic strength.
The America250 locomotives from CN will be put into service immediately and are expected to operate on the company’s U.S. network throughout 2026. This provides employees, customers, and rail fans the opportunity to participate in the celebrations.
