Luka Koper Group increases revenue and profit
Mar 2, 2026 at 9:12 AMThe International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), the European Community Shipowners‘ Associations (ECSA), and the Asian Shipowners‘ Association (ASA) have expressed concern about the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz. In a joint statement, the organizations emphasize their worry for the well-being of the seafarers and civilians affected by the recent attacks. The tragic incidents and loss of life have alarmed the associations, and their thoughts are with the families of those affected.
Call for safety for seafarers
The associations urge all parties involved to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of seafarers. They find themselves in an unstable situation without being responsible for it. The situation in the region is described as dynamic and unpredictable, highlighting the need for the entire industry to rely on reliable information from trusted sources.
The organizations advise all ships operating in the region to conduct comprehensive risk assessments and to remain vigilant in accordance with the latest maritime security guidelines (Best Management Practices, BMP). Ship operators should continue to monitor updates from official government sources and act accordingly.
The ICS, as the leading global trade association, represents the interests of shipowners and operators in the commercial shipping sector and accounts for over 80% of the world’s commercial fleet. The ECSA, on the other hand, unites 21 national shipowners‘ associations from the EU and Norway and controls 35% of the global commercial fleet. The ASA is a voluntary organization representing the interests of shipowners‘ associations from ASEAN countries, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea, and represents about 50% of the world’s commercial fleet.
The joint statement underscores the urgency of ensuring safety at sea and protecting seafarers in this critical situation.
