Direct connections to Europe again
Feb 25, 2026 at 10:21 AMPSA Antwerp recently celebrated the arrival of five new mega ship-to-shore cranes (STS) at the Europa Terminal. These cranes are designed for the largest container ships in the world and represent an important step in the modernization program „Project Emerald,“ as the company reports. This investment will prepare the Port of Antwerp for the demands of global trade with large container ships of the future.
The new STS cranes are the largest of their kind ever ordered for the port. Their installation is expected to enable the handling of ultra-large container ships. The cranes reach a height of 52 m and have a reach of 71.8 m, which, according to PSA Antwerp, allows for the handling of ships that can transport up to 26 containers in width.
Operational efficiency and reliability
With a dual lifting capacity of up to 112 t, the new cranes are expected to enhance the operational efficiency and productivity of the berths. This is also expected to positively impact the reliability of the service for the company’s customers. According to company information, the cranes are a central component of „Project Emerald,“ which is being carried out in collaboration with the Port of Antwerp-Bruges.
