Tasks of the Central Committee
The Central Committee is part of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and oversees the National Register of natural and legal persons engaged in road transport on behalf of third parties. The main tasks of the Committee include the creation and publication of the register of road transport companies, the accreditation of certification bodies, and the implementation of the directives of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport in the field of road transport.
Furthermore, the Committee is responsible for information and communication activities for companies, including the use of digital platforms. It also conducts studies and consultations to support legislative projects and address issues related to market access for road transport.
The Committee reviews compliance with legal requirements by registered companies, particularly regarding economic activity, the adequacy of the fleet in relation to the number of drivers, and the proper insurance of vehicles. These checks are carried out using data stored in the central information system of the Ministry of Transport, as well as through digital connections to the information systems of Inail, Inps, and the Chambers of Commerce.
Recently, the Committee’s competencies have been expanded by new legal regulations, which assign it the task of reporting potential violations of payment deadlines for transport services to the competition authority, while maintaining the anonymity of transport providers.
