Data products integrated for traffic safety
Feb 18, 2026 at 11:53 AMQatar Airways Cargo has launched a new program aimed at digitizing ramp operations, focusing on optimizing ground processes and establishing paperless workflows. This initiative represents a significant step in the company’s strategy to promote safety, efficiency, and digital innovation in global ground handling processes.
At the heart of the program is the Ramp Offload and Load Supervision (ROLS), a digital tool that replaces traditional paper-based loading instructions. ROLS enables enhanced verification of Unit Load Devices (ULDs) and ensures complete real-time verification. Ramp staff can utilize this technology to conduct loading and unloading operations with greater accuracy, reducing paper usage and increasing handling efficiency. Ultimately, this aims to improve the entire flight handling process.
Chief Officer Cargo Mark Drusch commented on the program’s objectives: „We believe that digital transformation is not just a strategic priority, but a fundamental mindset that shapes our leadership in innovation within the air freight industry.“ He emphasized that the Ramp Digitalisation Programme is a crucial part of Qatar Airways‘ vision to digitize every touchpoint of operations and create a fully connected, paperless cargo experience.
Key Features of the Program
The Ramp Digitalisation Programme includes several core elements designed to enhance the efficiency and safety of ground operations. These include real-time digital confirmation of loading processes, digital verification of ULDs to ensure 100% compliance, and monitoring of Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Additionally, a QR code scanning feature will be implemented to provide improved visibility of ramp operations.
ROLS also lays the foundation for future innovations, such as the use of QR-coded ULDs and aircraft positioning using handheld devices. These measures are part of a broader Digital Cargo Vision from Qatar Airways Cargo, which also encompasses improvements in electronic bookings, paperless shipments, and automated warehousing solutions.
Drusch concluded with the words: „Our goal is to leverage technology to enhance customer satisfaction, safety, and operational precision, thereby ensuring greater reliability, speed, and visibility.“
