Feb 18, 2026 at 1:42 PMGlasgow Prestwick Airport has recently reached a significant milestone: over 25 million e-commerce packages have been processed since the terminal E became operational. This figure highlights the growing role of the airport in British trade and the continuous expansion of its e-commerce operations.
In the past year, the airport recorded strong growth in the cargo sector. Since May 2025, when the first scheduled e-commerce flight landed, more than 600 cargo flights have been conducted, over 10,000 pallets transported, and a total of 23,000 tons of imports processed. Ian Forgie, Managing Director of Glasgow Prestwick Airport, emphasized: „The volume of packages processed at Prestwick demonstrates the high demand for reliable and uninterrupted access to the UK market, as well as the expertise of our team.“
Growth through new trade routes
The airport’s expansion has been driven by the introduction of new long-haul cargo services in 2025. Air China Cargo and China Southern Airlines have established operations in Prestwick, leading to a weekly frequency of twelve scheduled cargo flights directly to China. These new trade routes are expected to facilitate cross-border trade worth £250 million in 2026.
Additionally, Royal Mail and EVRi established e-commerce hubs in the airport’s dedicated 5,302 m² facility last year. These developments were recognized in December 2025 with the award for „Cargo Company of the Year“ at the Logistics UK Awards, acknowledging the airport’s performance and contribution to the industry.
Glasgow Prestwick Airport offers round-the-clock cargo operations and has no restrictions or curfews for incoming or outgoing flights. The uninterrupted air and ground routes of the airport enable faster processing, making it a preferred choice for e-commerce flights.
