“Maritime Action Plan” for US shipbuilding
Feb 16, 2026 at 11:57 AMThe Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, as well as Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw (pictured), recently introduced two new reforms for Indian Railways. These reforms are part of Indian Railways‘ program „52 Reforms in 52 Weeks.“ The implementation of the new measures is set to begin immediately, according to the Ministry of Railways.
Focus on Quality and Efficiency
The two reforms aim to enhance onboard services and optimize logistics through the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals. The former is intended to improve the quality of coach cleaning. Indian Railways plans to implement continuous cleaning of train service providers to ensure better washing and quality cleaning of coaches. AI-based monitoring will also be utilized to ensure compliance with cleaning standards.
Currently, according to the Ministry, 124 multimodal terminals are being repurposed into hubs for freight and processing centers. These reforms are expected to strengthen the logistics sector in India, with over 500 „Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals“ planned. Shri Vaishnaw emphasized that reforms are not a one-time event but an ongoing process. The effects of these measures are already noticeable, as Indian Railways has become the second-largest freight transporter in the world. New trains and working methods are being introduced throughout the system.
