440 tons of blueberries to the Big Apple
Feb 16, 2026 at 5:14 PMNetwork Airline Management (NAM) has set a new record this year by transporting 3,100 tons of freshly cut flowers from Nairobi, Kenya, to Liège, Belgium. This achievement was reached in preparation for the „Valentine’s Day Rush“ 2026, during which the demand for flowers peaked.
High Demand Before Valentine’s Day
The peak period, which extended over the two weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day, brought a significant increase in demand. Since the expansion of the flight schedule at the end of 2025, NAM now operates eight scheduled flights weekly from Nairobi (NBO) to Liège (LGG). For Valentine’s Day 2026, this meant a total of:
– 16 regular scheduled flights
– 15 additional flights, representing the highest number in the company’s history
– A total of 31 flights specifically planned for the Valentine’s Day Rush.
Each flight with the Boeing 747F fleet was fully booked to maximum capacity, transporting over 100 tons of roses and carnations per flight. In total, 3.1 million kg of flowers were moved on more than 1,300 pallets, with the average weight per pallet exceeding 2.3 tons.
Efficient Logistics Between Nairobi and Europe
The operations team of NAS NBO monitored each flight rotation on-site in Kenya. The flowers were efficiently loaded and flown to Liège. Upon arrival, the flowers were quickly processed and routed via road networks to wholesalers and florists across Europe and the United Kingdom to ensure that the flowers arrive fresh for the big day.
„We are pleased to have achieved another remarkable record,“ said Sam Lindsey, Commercial and Operations Director of Network Airline Management. „The increase from six to eight weekly scheduled flights last year has strengthened the foundation of our regular flight schedule. Operating 15 additional flights specifically for this peak season is a testament to the hard work of our global teams. We remain committed to supporting the Kenyan horticulture industry now and in the future. We value our long-standing partners and customers who continue to work with us. These new records have been achieved together with you!“
Long-term Support for the Flower Industry
The Network Aviation Group has been supporting the flower industry in Kenya for over 40 years. Following the increase in the flight program at the end of 2025, NAM now maintains a stable year-round flight schedule with eight weekly B747F flights to provide Kenyan producers with consistent and high-capacity access to global markets.
