Hapag-Lloyd Aims to Acquire ZIM
Feb 16, 2026 at 3:11 PMThe approval for the designs of a new logistics complex in St Johns, Enderby, was recently granted by the planning committee of the Blaby District Council. The so-called „Enderby Hub“ could bring more than 2,000 jobs to the region, according to the Sharnford Parish Council. The decision was made during a recent meeting, following the approval of a planning application for warehouses, offices, and gatehouses in July of last year. The area in question was designated for employment purposes in the district council’s local plan in 2019.
Project Structure and Construction Phases
The 33-hectare site will be divided into three zones: A, B, and C. Access will be via Leicester Lane, with the development planned in two phases. The first phase includes earthworks, the construction of main roads, footpaths, and internal access roads. Landscaping, yards, and parking facilities are also part of this phase.
The second phase will focus on the warehouse and industrial units. Zone A, located at the rear of the site, is expected to include two warehouses for large-scale logistics operations. Zone B will house another unit, while Zone C is planned to accommodate two commercial units for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Sustainability Aspects
The project also includes solar panels and heating and cooling systems, according to the parish council. The construction of new foot and cycle paths, with a total of 340 bike spaces, aims to contribute to sustainable mobility around the new center. Additionally, about 10% of the parking spaces will be equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles.
The applicant, Royal London Mutual Insurance Ltd, described the project as a „flagship project“ according to the parish council’s statement. It is expected that the „Enderby Hub“ could create approximately 2,479 jobs, including 1,811 direct positions, 125 construction-related jobs, and an additional 543 potential indirect positions.
