This decision was made by the airline’s board of directors and represents a significant step for the company, which plays a central role in international air traffic and in the economic and tourism development of French Polynesia.
Experienced Industry Expert Takes the Helm
Lionel Guérin brings extensive experience in the aviation sector. He is connected to Polynesian culture, as his wife is from Raiatea and his daughter has Polynesian roots. Guérin has previously founded, structured, and restructured several airlines in competitive markets. Since April 2025, he has been a member of the board of directors of Air Tahiti Nui and will now lead a new phase of the company’s transformation, based on sustainable performance and committed teamwork.
Hiro Arbelot, the chairman of the board, commented on Guérin’s appointment: “We have chosen an entrepreneur. An experienced and innovative leader who has a clear vision and the ability to manage complex transformations.” He emphasized the need for a clear and unifying leadership style in a rapidly changing and competitive aviation environment.
Thanks to the Outgoing Director
Arbelot also praised the achievements of the outgoing director Philippe Marie and thanked him for his dedication and professionalism during his tenure.
Lionel Guérin himself emphasized the importance of Air Tahiti Nui: “The airline is more than just a means of transportation. It represents a vital connection between French Polynesia and the rest of the world and is a symbol of openness and responsibility.” He expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and his commitment to achieving sustainable performance together with the employees that remains true to the values and identity of Polynesia.
Lionel Guérin is an engineer and trained pilot. He has held various leadership positions at Air France and was, among other roles, the founder and managing director of several airlines, including Airlinair and Transavia France. Most recently, he worked at Air Moana, where he supported the company’s expansion.
In addition to his professional career, Guérin is committed to environmental protection and is the founder of the organization Aéro Biodiversité. He has been awarded the title of Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur and Officier of the Ordre national du Mérite.
Air Tahiti Nui was founded in 1998 and operates international long-haul flights with a fleet of four Boeing 787-9. In 2024, the airline transported 8,537 tons of cargo (+24% compared to 2023) and generated revenue of 2.3 billion XPF (19.3 million EUR).
