Feb 11, 2026 at 1:55 PMAt Liège Airport, CargoLand by LGG has inaugurated its newly renovated Vet Center, primarily designed for the sanitary inspection and quarantine of live animals (AVI) passing through the airport. This facility represents an important control point within the logistics chain for live animals of CargoLand by LGG, ensuring that every animal entering or leaving LGG fully complies with health and biosecurity regulations. All live animals crossing the airport are subject to strict veterinary controls to protect both the welfare of the animals and the integrity of cross-border trade. The inauguration of the modernized Vet Center marks a significant step in strengthening the infrastructure of CargoLand by LGG, dedicated to the regulated and responsible transport of live animals.
Modern Facilities for Effective Controls
The renovated Vet Center now features fully equipped inspection zones and an isolated quarantine area. This allows veterinarians to care for animals requiring observation or additional testing without disrupting ongoing operations. This arrangement enables the simultaneous processing of multiple shipments while maintaining strict biosecurity measures and operational continuity.
The Vet Center is designed to support a variety of species and scenarios, assisting the veterinary services of the Belgian Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (AFSCA) in conducting detailed sanitary inspections. These include health status checks, document reviews, and assessments of transport conditions. In 2025, the facility processed 3,766 equines as well as various live shipments such as ornamental fish, insects, and small mammals, highlighting the growing complexity of the sanitary control activities managed by CargoLand by LGG.
Frédéric Brun, Head of the Commercial Cargo & Logistics Division at CargoLand by LGG, states: “The renovation of the Vet Center was driven by very concrete sanitary and operational realities. We are increasingly handling higher volumes and more complex movements of live animals. This improved infrastructure allows us to strengthen our veterinary control capacity and maintain the highest standards of animal health and welfare.”
The Vet Center is an integral part of the comprehensive ecosystem for live animals at CargoLand by LGG, which also includes the Horse Inn, capable of accommodating up to 12,000 horses per year under safe and controlled conditions. Together, these facilities enhance CargoLand by LGG’s position as one of the leading European platforms for the safe, regulated, and welfare-oriented transport of live animals.
