Air freight location Germany under pressure
Feb 6, 2026 at 9:21 AMMiami International Airport (MIA) has further solidified its position as the leading U.S. gateway for international air freight in 2025. The airport recorded growth in the freight sector for the sixth consecutive year. Freight volumes increased by 13.6% compared to the previous year, reaching nearly 3.5 million tons. This underscores the airport’s role as an air cargo hub for the Americas.
Strong Trade Flows as Growth Drivers
The growth was driven by sustained trade flows between the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean, as well as an increasing demand for time-sensitive and high-value shipments. Daniella Levine Cava, the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, emphasized that the current freight record „reflects the strength of our workforce and the vitality of our business community.“ Air freight continues to contribute to job creation, trade, and investment in the region.
Despite a high passenger volume of 55.3 million travelers (-1%), MIA’s freight figures stand out in a mixed global environment. The airport benefits from ongoing investments in infrastructure, with $9 billion allocated for modernization projects. These projects aim to enhance capacity, efficiency, and connectivity. Given the ongoing volatility of international supply chains, Miami’s consistent freight growth highlights its strategic importance for shippers and airlines serving the Americas.
