Feb 3, 2026 at 9:29 AMThiemo van Spellen has been appointed as the new Managing Director of dnata Netherlands. The appointment took effect on February 1, 2026. Van Spellen brings extensive international experience in logistics, commercial strategy, and customer-focused growth. Previously, he served as Global Accounts Managing Director at Geopost (DPDgroup), where he led global customer strategies and drove cross-border business development.
In his new position, van Spellen will strengthen operational processes and expand partnerships with customers in both the cargo and passenger sectors. He will also develop the organizational capabilities necessary for the next growth phase of dnata Netherlands.
Important Role at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
dnata Netherlands plays a central role in the larger dnata network, providing cargo, ground handling, and passenger services at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS), one of the busiest airports in Europe. The company works with a variety of customers offering short-haul, long-haul, and cargo flights. Currently, dnata serves over 20 airlines, handling approximately 500,000 tons of cargo annually and supporting around 16,000 flights per year.
Over the past ten years, dnata has continuously expanded its presence in the Netherlands, enhancing its cargo and ground handling services through innovative solutions and long-term partnerships with airlines at AMS. Recent investments in infrastructure, the electrification of ground support equipment, and environmental management have positioned the company for sustainable growth. This includes the development of dnata Cargo City Amsterdam, a fully automated cargo facility that aims to significantly increase capacity in the Netherlands.
Van Spellen succeeds Jan van Anrooy, who has retired. Stewart Angus, the regional CEO of dnata for Europe, commented positively on the appointment: “I am pleased to welcome Thiemo to dnata Netherlands. He brings an excellent combination of global commercial leadership expertise, operational knowledge, and a people-oriented management style.”
