Otto emphasized the need for structured and forward-looking leadership to optimize operations and implement significant investments.
New Leadership Team for Strategic Direction
The newly formed leadership team consists of the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Engineering Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. Additionally, the positions of Chief Development Officer and Chief Policy Officer have been created. These team members will pursue a unified growth strategy focused on improving core operations, investing in infrastructure, and collaborating with public and private partners. The goal is to promote long-term economic development in Alabama and enhance the port’s competitiveness.
Zeke Smith, Chairman of the Board of the Alabama Port Authority, expressed positive sentiments about the team’s composition and its ability to support the strategic direction of the port. „The board looks forward to supporting Doug and his team as they continue to deliver results for the state of Alabama,“ said Smith.
Key Positions and Their Responsibilities
Alex King, serving as Chief Operating Officer, will lead the operational strategy of the port. His focus will be on promoting growth in existing business areas, particularly at the McDuffie Coal, Pinto Steel, and General Cargo terminals. King will oversee measures to increase customer volume and improve terminal productivity.
Maggie Oliver (photo), the new Chief Development Officer, will lead the marketing and communications strategy of the Port Authority. Her goal is to advance a nationwide development strategy to increase the port’s cargo volume and attract new industries. This strategy aims to position Alabama as a competitive location for logistics and manufacturing activities.
Catherine Reaves will serve as Chief Policy Officer, overseeing political affairs and board governance. She will act as a liaison between the leadership team and external stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment and organizational consistency.
Jason Krick, Chief Engineering Officer, will be responsible for planning and implementing infrastructure projects. He will ensure that modernization and expansion initiatives are executed efficiently and align with the port’s growth strategy.
Chris Ransom, who has been serving as Chief Financial Officer since 2023, will lead the financial strategy of the Port Authority and ensure that financial resources align with the port’s growth priorities. He will also temporarily assume the role of Chief Operating Officer until King takes office on March 1.
The new leadership team of the Alabama Port Authority is designed to provide an integrated structure to guide the next steps in the port’s development and create long-term value for the state of Alabama. Otto emphasized that the team will support both existing businesses and new opportunities to foster sustainable growth.
