IAPH Creates New Leadership Positions
Jan 30, 2026 at 8:20 AMSchneider National, Inc. has announced a planned leadership transition that will take effect on July 1, 2026. This decision is part of a comprehensive succession plan and growth strategy for the company. Mark Rourke (left), who has served as President and CEO since 2019, will transition to the role of Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors. In this capacity, he will continue to contribute to the strategic direction of the company and advise the leadership team and the board.
With this change, the board has appointed Jim Filter (right), currently Executive Vice President and Group President for Transportation and Logistics, as the new President and CEO of Schneider. Filter will also assume his new position on July 1, 2026, and is expected to be appointed to the Schneider board at a later date.
Jim Filter commented on his new role: “I am honored to take the helm of Schneider and build on the momentum that Mark and our team have created. Schneider is well-positioned for significant growth, and I look forward to leading our talented team in advancing our technology solutions, expanding our multimodal network, and driving operational growth to create sustainable value for all stakeholders.”
Additionally, James Welch, who has served as Chairman of the Board since 2023, will take on the newly created position of Lead Independent Director. Welch has been a board member since 2018.
Jim Filter brings over 27 years of experience at Schneider and has made significant advancements in operations and technology in various key positions. Since 2022, he has led all of the company’s operating units and has played a crucial role in improving service quality and efficiency. Filter began his career at Schneider in 1998 and has held various leadership roles before being appointed to his current position.
Mark Rourke has significantly contributed to strengthening Schneider’s position in transportation and logistics. Under his leadership, the intermodal network has been expanded, and the truckload division has been transformed into a leading provider in the dedicated carrier space. Rourke’s extensive industry experience and commitment to Schneider’s employees and customers have shaped the company’s success for decades.
James Welch, the current Chairman of the Board, emphasized the importance of Rourke’s integrity and expertise during the transition: “Mark’s reputation for integrity and expertise is recognized among peers, customers, and industry stakeholders. I am confident that his leadership during this planned transition will provide continuity.”
This leadership transition is part of the board’s succession plan aimed at enhancing the company’s ability to adapt to the changing needs of customers and securing stakeholder confidence.
