New leadership team of the Alabama Port Authority
Jan 30, 2026 at 8:30 AMIAPH has created two new leadership positions to focus more on content, events, and member engagement. These changes are intended to support the organization in further expanding its membership growth and collaboration with the industry.
Victor Shieh (left), who has served as a communications partner for the World Ports Sustainability Program since 2018, has been appointed Director of Member Engagement and Networks. Previously, he held the positions of Communications and Events Director as well as Strategy and Communications Director. Shieh brings extensive experience in the commercialization of logistics systems and in PR and communications from Safmarine Container Lines, a company of the AP Moller-Maersk Group. With the current membership of over 200 organizations, up from 170 in the past eight years, Shieh will focus on providing high value to existing members and further expanding membership. Additionally, he will support the efforts of IAPH representatives in Southeast Asia and Central and South America and maintain relationships with global maritime media.
Nick Blackmore (right), who has served as Director of Business Development for the past two years, will take on the role of Director of Content Strategy and Events. In this capacity, he will oversee the content management of all IAPH publications and online tools. Blackmore has over two decades of experience as a journalist and has led several leading maritime trade publications. Prior to joining IAPH, he was Director of Editorial and Publications at IHS Markit in the Maritime and Trade division. In his new role, he will work closely with media partners to coordinate the program for the World Ports Conference as well as webinars and marketing activities.
Patrick Verhoeven, Managing Director of IAPH, commented on the new positions: “Victor and Nick first crossed paths while developing content and marketing for the planned IAPH World Ports Conference 2020 in Antwerp, which had to be canceled just two weeks before the event. This collaboration has continued over the past three years with the successful editions of the IAPH World Ports Conferences in Hamburg and Kobe. They work seamlessly together and with the rest of the team in Europe and Japan. This new structure will further strengthen our communications, events, and member and partnership engagements.”
The International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) was founded in 1955 and has developed into a global network of 201 port authorities and 175 port-related companies. The member ports, representing over 94 different nationalities, handle more than a third of the world’s seaborne trade and over 60% of the world’s container traffic. IAPH leads global initiatives in the port industry for decarbonization, risk management, and digitalization in the maritime transport chain.
