Wexco appointed Cargo GSSA for Alaska Airlines
Jan 28, 2026 at 11:33 AMDelta Air Lines has announced a significant expansion of its long-haul fleet. The airline has placed a firm order for 31 new Airbus aircraft, including 16 A330-900neo and 15 A350-900. Deliveries of these aircraft are scheduled for 2029. This order includes ten previously held options and adds 20 new options for future widebody aircraft.
Fleet Expansion and Efficiency Improvement
According to CEO Ed Bastian, Delta will be able to expand its capacity for international markets with these new aircraft while also improving efficiency and premium offerings. With this order, Delta’s Airbus widebody fleet will grow to a total of 55 A330neo and 79 A350s, including 20 A350-1000, which are scheduled for delivery starting in early 2027.
Additionally, Delta placed an initial order for 30 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners in January to advance fleet modernization and expand long-haul operations. The new aircraft will enhance both passenger and cargo capacities.
The specifications of the new aircraft indicate that the A350-900 can accommodate approximately 36 LD3 containers (about 172 m³) and has a cargo capacity of around 19 to 20 tons. The A330-900neo can transport about 33 LD3 containers (approximately 163 m³), while the Boeing 787-10 has space for about 40 LD3 containers (around 175 m³) and a cargo capacity of 13 to 15 tons. All new aircraft types promise an improvement in fuel efficiency and CO₂ emissions of about 25% compared to previous generations of widebody aircraft.
Delta’s fleet expansion supports the company’s international growth and leverages joint ventures and partnerships worldwide to connect passengers and cargo more efficiently with additional markets.
