Jan 27, 2026 at 9:40 AMHIVE Underwriters, an independent specialty MGA, has announced the launch of a marine insurance product. Nick Lewis will be appointed as Marine Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) and will assume his position in July 2026, after fulfilling his contractual obligations with his current employer. Lewis comes from Everest Insurance, where he most recently served as the head of the marine division for international business. He brings extensive experience in building and managing high-performing marine portfolios, as well as deep technical expertise.
Strategic Expansion of the Portfolio
The introduction of marine insurance represents another step in the development of HIVE as a multi-line specialty MGA. This follows the entry into space insurance at the end of 2025 and builds on previous successes in aviation insurance. Under Lewis’s leadership, HIVE plans to develop a diverse marine offering focused on specialized niche areas. Expertise, data-driven decisions, and close relationships with brokers will be leveraged to achieve sustainable results.
Bruce Carman, CEO of HIVE Underwriters, commented on this development: “Marine is a natural next step for HIVE. We see a real opportunity to create something unique in a space that rewards expertise and discipline. Marine also has personal significance for me, as I spent the first decade of my career learning and underwriting a marine account. I have firsthand experience of the importance of solid underwriting fundamentals and specialized knowledge for long-term performance.”
Nick Lewis emphasized the challenges and opportunities in the marine sector: “Marine remains one of the most technically demanding classes in the specialty market, and that’s where the opportunity lies. HIVE offers the freedom to build a marine offering the right way, with a clear focus, aligned capacity, and the tools to support intelligent risk selection. My goal is to assemble a specialized team that understands where and how marine portfolios can truly achieve above-average results.”
HIVE Underwriters will celebrate its ninth year of underwriting activity in 2026 for a diverse group of Lloyd’s syndicates and insurance companies. The company is recognized as a Managing General Agent (MGA) and Coverholder at Lloyd’s, as well as a Chartered Insurance Underwriting Agent. HIVE aims to develop a deeper understanding of risks through collaborative learning to provide both security and opportunities.
