Jan 26, 2026 at 1:29 PMTeams from ten international airlines participated in the 15th International Forklift and Pallet Building Championship organized by Hactl, held at Hactl’s SuperTerminal 1 in Hong Kong. The event has now established itself as a staple on the calendar, attracting numerous participants and spectators each year.
Competition and Challenges
The competition consisted of two main disciplines: forklift driving and pallet building. In the forklift test, participants had to demonstrate their skills by maneuvering the vehicles precisely and safely through a challenging course that simulated typical conditions of a cargo terminal. In the pallet building competition, participants had one hour to load as much cargo as possible onto pallets, adhering to the specified pallet contours and considering the standards of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as well as other best practices in the aviation industry.
Around 300 spectators watched the competitions, which included representatives from Air Canada, Cargolux, China Southern Airlines, Emirates SkyCargo, EVA Air, Finnair, IAG Cargo, Japan Airlines, Nippon Cargo Airlines, and SF Airlines.
Japan Airlines Dominates the Competition
Japan Airlines excelled this year in all major categories and was crowned the overall winner. The airline won both the forklift competition and the safety award for forklift driving, the pallet building competition, as well as the award for the best cheering team.
The event was attended by four distinguished guests, including Liu Chun San, Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Cissy Chan, Managing Director of the Hong Kong Airport Authority, Wan Chi Ping, Deputy Commissioner for Labour (Occupational Safety), and Bonnie Yau, Managing Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Council.
Michelle Choi, the current Managing Director of Hactl, stated: “As a leading company in cargo handling, Hactl constantly strives to improve the overall air freight industry, with operational safety always being one of our top priorities. We are pleased to have hosted the International Forklift and Pallet Building Championship again, which allows us to showcase and reward industry best practices and bring together partners from around the world.”
