Collaboration between Post and Comm-Unity extended
Jan 20, 2026 at 12:13 PMChangi Airport has commenced operations with fully automated tractors that operate without drivers. This represents another step towards automation on the airport grounds and more efficient handling. After nearly a year with over 5,000 test drives, two autonomous tractors are now in operation, transporting luggage between Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 under remote supervision.
The vehicles are equipped with more than ten sensors and cameras that ensure safe operation both during the day and at night, as well as in adverse weather conditions. Human operators can intervene at any time from a control center. Over the course of this year, an additional six tractors are planned to be deployed on routes between Terminal 2 and the aircraft stands. This initiative is part of a collaboration between Changi Airport Group (CAG) and SATS. By 2027, the fleet is expected to expand to a total of 24 vehicles.
Expansion of Applications
In addition to luggage transport, Changi plans to extend the use of autonomous tractors to cargo transport and the movement of equipment. This aims to increase productivity and make logistics on the airport grounds more resilient. The project is partially funded by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and is part of a broader innovation strategy by Changi, which prepares for the future operational requirements of Terminal 5.
