Jan 20, 2026 at 11:22 AMAD Ports Group has expanded its activities in Spain through the acquisition of the Balenciaga Astilleros shipyard. The subsidiary SAFEEN Drydocks, which is part of Noatum Maritime, acquired 100% of the shares in the shipyard for a total of 11.2 million EUR. This transaction is intended to strengthen AD Ports Group’s presence in Spain and the Mediterranean region and complements its activities in the offshore wind energy sector, as the company states.
The Balenciaga shipyard, which will operate under the name Balenciaga Shipyard, is located in the Basque region and has nearly a century of experience in shipbuilding. The shipyard has, among other facilities, two dry docks, a 105-meter-long slipway, and a production facility with automation and manufacturing technologies covering an area of 22,385 m². Additionally, there is a 3,530 m² cutting and manufacturing facility.
The shipyard specializes in the prefabrication of large modules for offshore projects and the construction of complex vessels. Notably, according to AD Ports, it is one of the few shipyards in Spain that focuses on the construction of Service Operation Vessels (SOVs). These vessels serve as floating bases for offshore wind farms and are also used for research and support purposes as well as for specialized towing operations.
