Jan 20, 2026 at 9:50 AMDP World set a new record in container handling at London Gateway in 2025. The port surpassed the mark of three million TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), marking a growth of over 52% compared to 2024, when 1.9 million TEU were handled. DP World attributes this development, among other factors, to the commissioning of the fourth berth and the additional call points of Gemini Cooperation on the Asia-Europe routes.
Growth at Southampton Terminal
DP World also recorded significant growth at the terminal in Southampton. More than two million TEU were handled there, raising the company’s total container throughput in the UK to over five million TEU.
According to DP World, expansion at London Gateway continues. Work is currently underway on two additional electric berths, which are part of a £1 billion investment. This expansion will increase the total number of berths to six, capable of accommodating the largest container ships in the world. Additionally, a newly constructed rail terminal at the site commenced operations in 2025. In the next two years, a new BOXBAY container handling system will also be built as part of a £170 million investment.
