ELP introduces “Next Generation Price”
Jan 14, 2026 at 9:21 AMEin PD Ports employee has reached a significant milestone: Harry Dent, one of the longest-serving employees, is celebrating 50 years as an HGV driver, as the company reports. To mark this occasion, Harry was surprised with a specially designed truck that honors his five decades behind the wheel and the thousands of miles driven.
Harry, 73 years old, gave up his HGV license two years ago for health reasons but remains with PD Ports as a shunter in the yard. As part of the celebrations for his 50th anniversary, he had the opportunity to drive the truck painted in his honor on the private grounds of Teesport. During the celebration, Harry met with PD Ports CEO Frans Calje, as well as other executives and colleagues. His wife Elaine and his three sons were also present to celebrate his long service.
Harry Dent, who lives in Acklam, obtained his HGV license at the age of 23. He began his career at R Durham and Sons, a transport company based in Billingham, which was acquired by PD Ports in the early 1990s.
