Hong Kong Air Cargo expands fleet

This order includes the delivery of additional R255 hybrid battery-diesel locomotives. MTA aims to revitalize the public transportation infrastructure in the city and enhance the capabilities and safety of the maintenance teams, as stated by Wabtec.
Collaboration between Wabtec and MTA
Alan Hamilton, Vice President of Engineering at Wabtec, emphasizes the importance of collaboration: “The success of the R255 hybrid locomotive is a testament to the strong working relationship between Wabtec and the MTA.” The contract includes both the locomotives and spare parts. Wabtec will manufacture the R255 locomotives at its development center in Erie, Pennsylvania. Deliveries are scheduled for 2027. These hybrid locomotives are intended to replace outdated equipment and provide improved reliability and operational efficiency. Additionally, they are expected to contribute to the improvement of air quality across the network.
