Davies Turner expands trailer fleet for Morocco
Jan 6, 2026 at 3:20 PMRepairs to the cargo ship „Gry Maritha,“ which supplies goods to the Sicilian Islands, are expected to take at least eight weeks, reports BBC. The windlass, a device that winds up the anchor and tightens the mooring lines, was damaged on December 12 in the port of St. Marys during strong winds.
The 1982-built vessel will remain operational under wind strengths of five or less on the Beaufort scale, according to the article. The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group (ISSG), responsible for the ship’s operation, has announced plans to deploy additional landing boats, aircraft, and the passenger ferry „Scillonian III“ to ensure the supply of fresh food to the island residents. As ISSG informed BBC, options for repairing the windlass were explored, but due to the ship’s age, no replacement parts were available. Work on a replacement has been ongoing since the Christmas season.
