According to its own statements, the DHL Group has made progress in 2025 on its path to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The company aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and has implemented several measures in its sustainability strategy. These include the use of sustainable aviation fuels, the electrification of the last mile, and the expansion of solar infrastructure.
Air Freight and Hydrogen Technology
A significant step in air freight is the agreement with Phillips 66, which DHL concluded in 2025. This agreement includes the delivery of over 240,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) over a period of three years. This measure is expected to reduce emissions over the lifecycle by approximately 737,000 tons of CO₂e, equivalent to the emissions from around 2,400 one-way flights from Los Angeles to Frankfurt, according to DHL. The fuel produced in California will primarily be used for DHL operations on the US West Coast.
In addition, DHL has also focused on hydrogen technology. As part of a pilot project in the Middle East, the company will test hydrogen-powered trucks. This is being done in collaboration with Hyperview in Saudi Arabia and aims to support the „Saudi Vision 2030.“
