Nov 27, 2025 at 6:18 PMFrankfurt Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) are now collaborating as part of a strategic partnership. With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, both airports are expanding their long-standing cooperation. The focus is on promoting targeted collaboration among partners in their respective airport communities, optimizing regulatory processes, and jointly exploring new market potentials.
(Frankfurt) This partnership reflects Frankfurt Airport’s motto – “Creating the Future of Cargo. Together.” – and underscores the shared goal of both airports.
“The demand for air freight between Asia and Europe is growing rapidly. With Pudong, Fraport gains one of the largest cargo airports in China as a partner,” says Alexander Laukenmann, Head of Aviation at Fraport AG. “Our cooperation is an important step to meet the growing demands of international trade.”
Frankfurt Airport is one of the leading air freight locations in Europe and serves as a crucial hub between Asia and Europe. Both airports see opportunities in deepening their collaboration to make international freight traffic even more efficient and future-oriented. Joint projects include a coordinated rapid response and communication mechanism to accelerate customs and regulatory processes, as well as further joint roadshows to build a more interconnected freight ecosystem.
China, as the world’s largest exporting country, shapes international goods traffic. Online trade is also gaining increasing importance: Frankfurt Airport handles around five million e-commerce shipments monthly. The strategic partnership with Shanghai Pudong aims to further improve cross-border processing and establish common standards.
Visible Result of the Cargo Roadshow
A year after the successful Cargo Roadshow in Shanghai, the Memorandum of Understanding is a visible result of the continuous exchange with key players in the Chinese air freight market. It marks the beginning of further international collaborations in strategically important markets. The partnership with Shanghai Pudong is part of the comprehensive Masterplan CargoHub Frankfurt, with which Fraport aims to enhance the competitiveness of the cargo location in the long term.
