CTL Expands Area at Central HUB in Homberg
Nov 18, 2025 at 11:21 AMThe Hamburg Port and Logistics AG (HHLA) is making a clear statement for climate-friendly supply chains: From now on, electric trucks will benefit from the lifting of the slot binding at the Hamburg container terminals. As part of its sustainability strategy, HHLA is freeing electric trucks from the time slot binding during a pilot phase initially until mid-2026.
(Hamburg) A new category in the slot booking system allows transport companies to book a slot without being tied to a fixed time window. E-trucks can thus be processed flexibly within the booked day, taking into account the special conditions due to necessary charging processes for electric trucks.
Jens Hansen, Chief Operating Officer of HHLA: “With the temporary lifting of the slot binding for electric trucks, we are specifically supporting the transition to climate-friendly drives. Throughout the HHLA Group, we have been driving the electrification of our equipment across Europe for years – with the goal of reducing CO2 emissions and offering our customers sustainable, future-oriented solutions.”
Continuous Development
The slot booking system was introduced in 2017 to avoid bottlenecks and relieve the traffic situation in the Hamburg port. Since then, HHLA has been continuously developing the system in collaboration with partners. With the temporary lifting of the slot binding and the use of its own electric trucks at the subsidiaries METRANS and CTD, HHLA underscores its clear commitment to promoting sustainable transport solutions. By 2040, HHLA aims to operate climate-neutral across the group – the new regulations are also intended to facilitate the entry of other companies into emission-free logistics.
