The SWAN Layer Meets SAP’s Clean Core Criteria

The SWAN Layer of SWAN GmbH, a project house for SAP logistics, meets SAP’s Clean Core criteria and is listed as “SAP-Certified for clean core with SAP S/4HANA Cloud.” The SWAN Layer is a modular extension layer for SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) that implements customer-specific functions in close alignment with standards.

(Augsburg) For SWAN customers, the certification means upgradable extensions in SAP EWM with smooth upgrades and lower maintenance efforts. The certification also strengthens SWAN’s strategic alignment with the SAP S/4HANA product strategy and ensures the long-term usability of SAP EWM solutions.

With the SWAN Layer, SWAN develops extensions to SAP EWM functionalities that are Clean Core compliant. This means that additional logic is clearly separated from the SAP standard, ensuring the compatibility of the extensions. Implementations remain release-compatible and predictable: upgrades occur with manageable effort, existing SAP EWM functions can continue to be used and specifically expanded. The close alignment with the SAP strategy ensures that customer-specific extensions remain permanently stable, low-maintenance, and close to the standard.

Reduces Complexity in Development

The SWAN Layer is a modular, ABAP-based extension for SAP EWM. It clearly represents central EWM objects such as Handling Unit, Storage Location, Warehouse Task, Resource, Batch, and Delivery, and provides reusable components for this purpose. This reduces complexity in development: error handling and logging are centrally organized, the code remains short, understandable, and close to the SAP standard. Following the Pareto principle, the SWAN Layer focuses on frequently needed core topics, thus accelerating customer projects. This simplifies the entry into project development for both SWAN and SWAN customers and ensures greater efficiency and security in programming.

SAP S/4HANA forms the digital core; Clean Core stands for standard-compliant, decoupled, and upgradable extensions. The SWAN Layer supports this approach and enables adjustments that ensure upgradeability and quality standards without changing the core. This maintains compatibility with upcoming S/4HANA releases and cloud innovations.
