Nov 6, 2025 at 1:14 PMAs the days grow shorter and Christmas approaches, the time for giving begins for millions of people in Germany – and for package logistics, it is the most important season of the year. Whether privately sent gifts for family and friends or orders from online retail: In the coming weeks, Hermes Germany’s package conveyors will be running at full speed to ensure that parcels and packages arrive on time for Christmas.
(Hamburg) The parcel service provider has prepared its logistics network based on detailed capacity planning and will reliably supply households nationwide – from the city to the countryside – with shipments. Private senders should mark December 19, 2025, in their calendars: On this day, shipments should be dropped off at one of the approximately 17,000 Hermes PaketShops nationwide by no later than 12 noon to ensure a first delivery attempt by Christmas Eve. As a guideline for EU-wide private shipping, December 12 is applicable, although individual countries may vary.
Hermes Germany is well-prepared for the busiest time of the year: This year, the parcel service provider expects again around Black Friday and the subsequent Cyber Week the highest package volumes with up to three million shipments processed on peak days. Compared to a regular week in October, the company anticipates a shipment increase of about 23 percent. To manage this peak season successfully, Hermes Germany has significantly increased its sorting and transport capacities: The fleet has been expanded with approximately 3,500 vehicles for local and long-distance transport.
Up to 13,000 Deliverers on the Last Mile
On the Last Mile, up to 13,000 deliverers will be deployed daily for the pickup and delivery of Hermes packages. By comparison, over the entire year, an average of more than 10,500 deliverers are on the road for Hermes Germany at front doors and PaketShops nationwide. As every year during the Christmas season, additional workers will also support the logistics locations of Hermes Germany. To cover part of the extra costs during the busiest shipping time of the year, Hermes Germany charges a peak surcharge for business clients from October to December. Private packages are exempt from this surcharge.
The delivery personnel will also be supported in their demanding daily routine during the pre-Christmas period by a range of digital tools and applications, which Hermes Germany is continuously working on. These digital solutions are used, for example, in planning the delivery sequence or in tour navigation, simplifying the delivery process and enabling increasingly precise planning and execution of delivery tours. Customers benefit from reliable time window announcements.
Record Volumes Last Year
“In the last Christmas season, we proved that we deliver very good performance even with record volumes in our system. This year, we expect similarly high package volumes on peak days and have made comprehensive preparations to ensure that we deliver reliably for our clients and end customers as usual,” explains Dennis Kollmann, CEO of Hermes Germany. “From our logistics locations, through sales and IT to long-distance and last-mile delivery: The preparation for this year’s peak package season is once again an absolute team effort across all sections of our network and is based on detailed, technology-supported capacity planning that we develop in close collaboration with our clients.”
