SSI Schäfer Sets Up Commissioning Warehouse for Transmec in Italy
Nov 4, 2025 at 12:58 PMForto, a provider of digital freight solutions, has successfully completed an additional initiative to reduce plastic waste in waterways. As part of the campaign, Forto financed “Plastic Credits” from Plastic Fischer, an organization that collects plastic waste directly from rivers, preventing it from entering the oceans.
(Berlin) All Forto customers receive corresponding certificates. In total, Forto has distributed credits amounting to nearly four tons to its customers. Humanity produces over 430 million tons of plastic each year. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), global plastic pollution could triple by 2060 if decisive action is not taken. In light of the recent inconclusive negotiations within the UNEP process, it is clear that politics alone is not enough to curb the plastic flood. Forto takes responsibility and aims to lead by example.
“More and more customers are consciously focusing on resource conservation and are relying on Forto’s sustainability solutions,” says Malin Holm, Company Sustainability Manager at Forto. “They are focusing, for example, on measuring and reporting their transport emissions and integrating Forto’s sustainability programs, such as biofuels, into their supply chain strategy. With our initiative, we strengthen this commitment while also contributing to environmental protection.”
The campaign ran from January to September of this year, in addition to Forto’s regular Ocean Plastic Prevention offering. Plastic Fischer collects plastic waste directly from rivers before it reaches the sea—while also empowering local communities in the source regions.
Global Supply Chains as a Source of Worldwide Pollution
“Global supply chains are a significant source of worldwide pollution. Therefore, we see the logistics industry as having a responsibility to act more sustainably,” says Guillaume Petit-Perrin, CEO of Forto. “By collaborating with Plastic Fischer, we want to make a concrete contribution and at the same time encourage our customers to continue on this path together with us.”
