KION Group Releases Q3 2025 Report
Oct 30, 2025 at 8:11 PMThere were five reasons to celebrate at the Baltic Rail Gate (BRG) on the Scandinavian quay in Lübeck-Travemünde: The combined terminal celebrated its 25th anniversary, the official inauguration of a new portal crane, the extension of the tracks to 740 meters, and a change in management. Antje Falk, who has been there from the beginning, retired, and her successor Dietmar Lonke officially took over the management of the terminal.
(Lübeck-Travemünde) To celebrate this special anniversary, around 100 guests from business and politics gathered at the transshipment area. Among the speakers were Susanne Henckel, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Labor, Technology, and Tourism of Schleswig-Holstein, Lübeck’s Mayor Jan Lindenau, Prof. Dr. Sebastian Jürgens, Managing Director of the Lübeck Port Company (LHG), Armin Riedl, Managing Director of Kombiverkehr KG, as well as Antje Falk and Dietmar Lonke.
Saxophonist Managing Director as Highlight
A special highlight of the celebration: LHG Managing Director Sebastian Jürgens (left in the picture) thanked Antje Falk in a very personal way – with a short solo saxophone performance that received much applause.
Since its founding, Baltic Rail Gate has been regarded as a central hub for combined transport between Germany and the Baltic Sea states. With the recent modernization, the terminal is technically and logistically well-prepared for the increasing demands of rail freight transport. The new portal crane and the extended tracks create the conditions for longer and more efficient trains. The total investment of around 18 million euros is seen by the two shareholders LHG and Kombiverkehr not only as an important contribution to further shifting transport to rail but also as a commitment to the logistics location of Lübeck.
