Handling of Air Freight via Germany Becoming Increasingly Expensive
Oct 14, 2025 at 1:55 PMThe Leschaco Group is expanding its logistics infrastructure with the commissioning of a new multi-purpose logistics center in the Bremen industrial park. This strategically enhances the company’s capabilities in the product segments LCL (Less than Container Load) and GCL (Global Contract Logistics). The investment underscores Leschaco’s commitment to providing safe, efficient, and sustainable logistics solutions – particularly in handling hazardous materials.
(Bremen) The new logistics center encompasses approximately 20,500 m2 of space and offers over 12,000 pallet spaces in the contract logistics section, as well as an additional 6,500 in the CFS operation. An integrated container packing station, 27 loading ramps, and 9,500 m2 of block storage area complete the modern infrastructure for flexible logistics solutions. Equipped with a barcode-supported warehouse management system, SOLAS VGM certification, and optimized processes for export, import, cross docking, and storage, the facility meets the highest standards of transparency, efficiency, and legal compliance.
A key feature is the expanded hazardous materials storage: twelve separate storage areas outside the main building provide an additional 2,000 m² for the safe storage of chemicals and hazardous substances according to WGK and LGK classifications – including lithium-ion batteries. The facility meets the highest safety and environmental standards and has been awarded the DGNB Gold Certificate for sustainable construction – a testament to energy efficiency and environmental compatibility.
Container Packing Station and Storage
“The new distribution center in Bremen is designed for dual use as a container packing station and storage facility, representing a significant milestone for our LCL and GCL products,” explains Sebastian Haebler, Head of Global Contract Logistics at Leschaco. “Thanks to the strategic location between the ports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Wilhelmshaven, along with the addition of our new site in Moerdijk, Netherlands, our customers benefit from increased flexibility in the supply chain and immediate proximity to the key logistics hubs in Europe.”
Kai Chladek, Head of Global Product Management LCL, adds: “With the new location in Bremen, we are not only creating additional capacity for our LCL activities but also a powerful platform for the safe and efficient handling of hazardous materials. The close integration into our global networks and the modern technical equipment enable us to offer our customers the highest service quality and reliability.”
Part of the Overall Strategy
The new logistics center in Bremen is part of Leschaco’s overarching strategy to align infrastructure investments with customer requirements, regulatory developments, and sustainability goals – thereby ensuring long-term competitiveness.
