Sep 28, 2025 at 10:33 AMWith the opening of a new 5,000 m² production facility in Obernai, Alsace, the British packaging manufacturer Loadhog strengthens its presence in Europe. Shorter transport routes reduce CO₂ emissions, and modern manufacturing technologies increase efficiency. At the same time, new jobs and synergies with the already established sister company Gripple are being created.
(Obernai) The new 5,000 m² facility is strategically located on a street aptly named Rue de l’innovation, reflecting Loadhog’s unwavering commitment to innovation, a central pillar of its business operations, values, and long-term goals. This expansion is a significant milestone in Loadhog’s journey to better serve its growing European customer base.
The factory in Obernai will enable Loadhog to reduce transport costs and CO₂ emissions, thereby improving sustainability for both the company and its customers. While the site on Hawke Street in Sheffield will remain the company’s central hub, it will play an important role in supporting the new French site in its initial phase and beyond.
The first products to be shaped at the Obernai site will come from Loadhog’s intralogistics range, including automation containers and trays. These products are designed to integrate seamlessly into automated storage systems such as conveyors, robotics, and transfer systems. With features like RFID compatibility, stackability, durable lightweight construction, and near-silent operation, they help streamline processes, reduce manual handling, and improve throughput in high-volume environments.
Avoiding Loss of Plastic Resin
The factory in Obernai has been built using renewable energy and will participate in Operation Clean Sweep®, an international initiative aimed at preventing the loss of plastic resin to protect water quality, the environment, and worker safety.
Nestled in a picturesque location with mountain views, the new site offers an inspiring workplace for the Loadhog team. As an employee-owned company, every member of Loadhog has a stake in the success of this new venture. The opening of the factory in Obernai is not just a business expansion but a collective achievement for the entire Loadhog team.
The opening of the factory in Obernai will also bring valuable employment opportunities to the local community, as Loadhog is committed to recruiting and developing talent from the region. By introducing specialized manufacturing and engineering skills, the facility will contribute to the industrial growth and innovation landscape of the region.
Employee-Owned
As an employee-owned company, Loadhog takes pride in investing in people and creating a workplace where every team member plays a meaningful role in shaping the future of the company. The sense of community is further enhanced by Loadhog’s sister company Gripple, which is also based in Obernai, creating a familiar and collaborative environment among like-minded businesses.
