South Westphalia Relies on a Strong Rail Network
Sep 14, 2025 at 5:35 PMAlmost a year and a half after the groundbreaking, Daimler Truck today officially opened the Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Center Munich Aschheim. The company is making a strong statement for the future of transport and service: The new location for trucks, buses, and vans is tailored to the needs of commercial and fleet customers in the Munich metropolitan area and is designed from the outset for commercial vehicles powered by alternative drive technologies.
(Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Aschheim) On approximately 44,500 square meters of land, sales and service for trucks of the brands Mercedes-Benz and FUSO, as well as service for buses of the brands Mercedes-Benz and Setra, and Mercedes-Benz vans, are now offered in Aschheim near Munich. The new commercial vehicle center on Klausnerstraße will also be a central point for the financial services business of Daimler Truck Financial Services Germany (DTFSD). Commercial and fleet customers will find tailored offers for hire purchase or leasing, including service contracts and insurance for trucks. Solutions for charging infrastructure are also offered. Together with CharterWay GmbH, the location provides a flexible mobility concept with rental and financing solutions from a single source.
Achim Puchert, CEO Mercedes-Benz Trucks: “Consistent customer orientation is crucial for the success of Mercedes-Benz Trucks. Our own sales operations play a significant role in this. Accordingly, the further development of the company-owned sales network, now also with a new, state-of-the-art location near Munich, is an important building block of our strategy. We will continue to invest consistently in our own sales operations in the future.”
The Truck Business is Complex and Consultation-Intensive
Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales, and Services Mercedes-Benz Trucks: “The truck business is fundamentally very complex, consultation-intensive, and characterized by strong relationships between us and our customers. Through our company-owned dealerships and locations, we are in close contact with them and can continuously develop our products and services. We are therefore deeply convinced that our Own Retail operations will remain critical to our business in the future. In the past two years alone, we have opened seven new commercial vehicle centers in Europe, two of which are in Germany.”
Volker Hüntrup, Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Own Retail, Europe: “In addition to acquisitions in our European core markets, such as in Trappes in the west of Paris, we are also continuing to invest in Germany. We celebrated the expansion of our location in Würzburg with our customers in May, and we are currently working on expanding the commercial vehicle center in Hamburg. Furthermore, the expansion of our manufacturer-owned sales continues. Recently, we decided to build a new workshop in Wörth am Rhein, very close to our plant, and will soon begin new construction projects in Koblenz and Nuremberg, while also exploring further investment options.”
Mirko Sgodda, Head of Marketing, Sales, and Customer Services Daimler Buses: “The new commercial vehicle center in Aschheim is a significant milestone – for Daimler Truck, for Daimler Buses, and especially for our customers. By integrating bus services, we strengthen our Europe-wide service network and set new standards for the maintenance and repair of vehicles with electrified drives.
New Building Ready for Alternative Drive Technologies
The new building is excellently prepared for the future of transport from the very beginning: For example, high-voltage workstations have been set up on the approximately 3,200 square meter workshop area to service battery-electric models such as the Mercedes-Benz trucks eActros 600 and eEconic, the FUSO eCanter, and the city bus Mercedes-Benz eCitaro.
A total of 25 parking spaces for trucks, buses, and vans are available – with an option to expand by another nine spaces. Additionally, a highly modern, variably adjustable workplace has been created in Aschheim to work on the roofs of vehicles – on the truck cab or bus roof. This so-called roof workstation is particularly relevant for the electric city bus Mercedes-Benz eCitaro, as it carries its batteries on the roof.
Other highlights of the new building include: repair and accident service with frame straightening technology, trailer and semi-trailer assembly service, inspection point for main inspections, emissions testing, and other examinations, as well as parts and accessories sales.
At the Aschheim location, the maintenance and repair of vehicles with hydrogen-based drive technologies have also been taken into account from the outset: The workshop features a fully equipped gas workstation with gas sensors and a specific exhaust system that already meets the requirements for hydrogen. The prerequisites for discharging hydrogen at a so-called evaluation area in front of the workshop and the necessary basic refueling after a workshop stay will be installed by the end of 2025.
Of course, sufficient electric charging stations have also been planned at the location: for employee and customer cars, a total of six charging stations with twelve charging points, and for trucks and buses, initially four charging stations with eight charging points and charging capacities of up to 400 kilowatts, where customer vehicles can be charged after leaving the service, as well as CharterWay rental vehicles.
Modern Workshop, Modern Workplaces
The new commercial vehicle center has been designed according to the latest standards. It offers waiting areas for customers, and for the approximately 100 employees, the paths are designed to be as short as possible. Where possible, workflows have been digitized.
The workshop is equipped with two roller brake testers for brake tests, a tachograph testing station, a bodywork department, and four overhead cranes, for example, for lifting engines and transmissions. Thanks to a so-called Truck Lift system, a complete truck-trailer combination can be lifted to perform ergonomic work on wheels and brakes. With two workshop vehicles, the Aschheim location participates in the mobile breakdown service in and around Munich.
For the energy supply of the location with two-story buildings and a gross floor area of approximately 3,850 square meters, a photovoltaic system with 754 modules has been installed, which can generate more than the energy demand of the location with approximately 450 megawatt peak (MWp).
Location in Aschheim is Ideal
The location directly on the A99 at the Kirchheim interchange near Munich allows for optimal connection to the existing infrastructure – for long-distance transport, but also for distribution traffic towards the city center. The proximity to the city center also brings short distances for city bus customers.
