VDR Calls for More Security for Maritime Shipping
Aug 21, 2025 at 7:08 PMAs the first truck manufacturer, Volvo Trucks is participating in this year’s E-Cannonball with a Volvo FH Aero Electric and is also a sponsor of the rally. Over 100 teams will start from October 4 to 5, 2025, with purely battery-electric vehicles on an exciting route in North Rhine-Westphalia. Through sponsorship, Volvo Trucks aims to support the ramp-up and acceptance of battery-electric vehicles.
(Ismaning/Düsseldorf) The E-Cannonball is the largest electric car rally in Germany and takes place this year from October 4 to 5 in NRW. The Volvo FH Aero Electric will cover the entire distance without a trailer, as it competes against passenger cars and the rally tasks would otherwise be unsolvable for a tractor-trailer. The E-Cannonball starts in the pedestrian zone of Düsseldorf and ends after several routes through the surrounding area of the North Rhine-Westphalian capital in the charging park in Hilden. The waste management company REMONDIS GmbH & Co. KG from Lünen, which has several electric Volvo Trucks in operation, will also participate in the event with its Volvo FH Aero Electric.
“We are very pleased to have won Volvo Trucks as the first truck manufacturer and sponsor for the E-Cannonball. Volvo Trucks is a pioneer in the electrification of road freight transport and has a good chance of being competitive in the rally. For us, it’s not about speed, but about mastering challenging stages and tricky tests,” says Ove Kröger, initiator and head of the E-Cannonball.

Focusing on the electric truck
“At Volvo Trucks, we believe that electromobility will play a crucial role in the future of road freight transport. Volvo Trucks has been producing electric trucks in series since 2020. With the E-Cannonball, we want to bring the trucks, which are so important for society as a whole, into the focus of public perception to advance e-mobility here as well,” says Manfred Nelles, spokesperson for Volvo Trucks in Germany.
The city of Düsseldorf will simultaneously hold an event on e-mobility in the city center. This will cover all types of electric mobility, from e-scooters, e-bikes, and cars to trucks. Volvo Trucks will also be present with an event truck and exhibition vehicles to answer questions from all visitors and to explain e-mobility in trucks in more detail.
This year, the E-Cannonball celebrates its 8th edition. Over 100 teams will start with purely battery-electric vehicles, from motorcycles to cars and e-conversions, to the Volvo truck on a varied route through North Rhine-Westphalia.
E-Cannonball Aims to Raise Awareness for Electric Vehicles
The E-Cannonball is the largest electric rally in Germany and has set itself the task of raising awareness of the efficiency and potential of electric vehicles. The event was initiated in 2018 by, among others, electromobility pioneer Ove Kröger. The event brings together a wide range of teams each year that compete in strategic planning, energy efficiency, and creative challenges.
