Austrian Post Stops Package Deliveries to the USA
Aug 21, 2025 at 7:35 PMWhen searching for new software, companies often face a significant challenge. Coop tested various container management systems in a careful selection process and ultimately decided on the BinMan® solution from LOGSOL. In September 2022, the three most promising providers were invited to Basel to present their systems.
The pitch from LOGSOL was convincing because BinMan® offers many features as standard. This significantly reduces the effort required for customizations. Dominik Hew, project manager of the transport aids pool at Coop, summarizes: “The current system THM2011 is a proprietary development based on SAP and is reaching its limits. In particular, software maintenance and the integration of new interfaces and functions are a major challenge in the current system.” With BinMan®, Coop chose a cloud solution that is professionally expandable and “still remains close to the standard to ensure release capability,” emphasizes Robert Kunz, Product Owner and Senior Project Manager at LOGSOL.
The transition from THM2011 to the new BinMan® system was a demanding task that had to be approached strategically. “The diversity, structure, and volume of the data to be migrated were more complex than expected,” summarizes Dominik Hew. Initially, it took time to review and clean all data. However, this step is necessary to ensure high data quality for BinMan®.
Diverse Functional Extensions
The project included various functional extensions of BinMan®, all aimed at increasing efficiency and user-friendliness. These adjustments were developed in close collaboration with the departments of Coop to consider specific requirements and optimize usage. A central aspect was the integration of BinMan® into the existing IT infrastructure. Interfaces to Coop’s ERP system and to the container management system of a large supplier were programmed for this purpose.
As another important component, the LOGSOL team implemented a Single Sign-On (SSO). This allows users to log in just once and gain access to various systems. The significant relief for users is obvious, while the function also improves security and management of access rights. Robert Kunz speaks positively about the progress: “Thanks to the agile approach, this was an interface that worked very quickly and well.”
The technical solution alone does not guarantee project success – it largely depends on the agile collaboration between Coop and LOGSOL. Robert Kunz explains: “For us, it was important that we could respond flexibly to changes and new requirements. In agile project management, we divide the project into smaller sections, called sprints, and continuously adjust the planning to current developments.”
Dominik Hew also highlights the advantages: “We are already working agilely on many projects at Coop, so we were very pleased that LOGSOL is also pursuing this approach.”
Effective Employee Training and Change Management
In the future, over 350 suppliers and more than 1,000 internal users will work with BinMan®. LOGSOL’s flexible training approach includes practical simulations, role-playing, on-site introductions, and videos.
To facilitate the system transition, a multi-tiered support concept was developed, providing all users with the appropriate point of contact. “Additionally, a ‘Hyper Care Phase’ is planned, during which LOGSOL will be more available after the transition,” says Robert Kunz.
For a successful training strategy, continuous adjustments are necessary. Feedback from participants is constantly collected to optimize methods and ensure that all employees are effectively prepared for BinMan®.
The close collaboration between LOGSOL and Coop has proven to be the key to project success. Jonathan Giger, Deputy IT Project Manager at Coop, particularly praises the expertise in logistics: “LOGSOL understands the processes and develops the logistics software accordingly. This has helped us a lot.” All project participants also greatly appreciate the open communication. Cuong Tang, IT Project Manager, emphasizes: “LOGSOL was honest from the start and did not make false promises. They told us directly when a timeframe was too tight.”
Foundation for More Efficient Processes
In March 2025, the old system is to be completely replaced. “There will be a ‘Big Bang’ where the old software will be shut down and BinMan® will be seamlessly put into operation,” explains Robert Kunz. With the introduction of BinMan®, Coop is not only creating the foundation for more efficient processes but also addressing the demands of an increasingly digitized and interconnected logistics environment. LOGSOL is pleased to be part of this success story and to continue supporting Coop as a reliable partner in the future.
