Seven Focus Topics Accompany the BVL Supply Chain CX
Jul 25, 2025 at 6:16 PMMaastricht Aachen Airport (MST) has teamed up with FlowerWatch, an accreditation consulting company specializing in key performance indicators (KPIs) and data monitoring in the flower supply chain, to improve the quality and lifespan of sensitive cargo passing through the Dutch freight hub.
(Maastricht/Aachen) The collaboration will enhance the integrity and durability of perishable goods by addressing the critical challenge of temperature fluctuations in freight transport. “We know that temperature fluctuations can lead to up to 20 percent waste in flower shipments,” said Dean Boljuncic, Head of Commercial Development at Maastricht Aachen Airport. “By making these fluctuations transparent and actionable, we can drastically reduce losses, increase profitability for our customers, and ensure that flowers arrive fresher and last longer for the end consumer.”
Through FlowerWatch’s monitoring tools and data loggers, MST gains precise insights into environmental conditions, allowing for real-time adjustments. The data also enables the optimization of handling processes to minimize waste and maintain product quality throughout the supply chain, from pickup in Africa to the end consumer in Europe.
“This partnership with FlowerWatch is a turning point for our operations with perishable cargo – optimizing handling processes is a core part of our strategy, and this innovative step strengthens our competitive advantage and ensures that MST remains the preferred gateway for high-quality, sensitive cargo now and in the future.”
As the second-largest cargo airport in the Netherlands and the only one with capacity for new routes, MST is committed to attracting leading airlines through excellent service and quality assurance. MST’s strategic location with direct motorway access and minimal waiting times already enables rapid freight transport, allowing perishable goods such as fruits, vegetables, and flowers to leave the airport within two hours of landing.
Without Slot Restrictions
The integration of FlowerWatch’s technology further enhances this efficiency and ensures that cargo quality is secured. Without slot restrictions and with a strong focus on growth, this partnership builds on MST’s recent successes, including new flights from Turkish Cargo and a new partnership with ECS Livestock for the transport of horses via the second-largest airport in the Netherlands.
