Enhancing Supply Chain Performance with a Positive Attitude
Jul 18, 2025 at 8:02 PMThe expert forum for climate-friendly mobility and infrastructure established by Federal Minister Schnieder has included the demands of Combined Transport and the SGV associations in its recommendations and is advocating for political support measures for combined transport. The dramatic situation of combined transport due to the planned total closures of DB InfraGO and the catastrophic network quality requires immediate political action.
(Frankfurt/Main, July 18, 2025) The results and recommendations include a route pricing reform, compensation for additional costs due to necessary diversions, a reduction in the electricity tax, and exemption from the truck toll during pre- and post-haulage.
Combined Transport KG welcomes the measures developed by the expert forum for climate-friendly mobility and infrastructure (EKMI) for the federal government’s climate protection program in the transport sector, which were presented yesterday at the Federal Ministry of Transport. Among the measures aimed at creating further CO2 reduction opportunities in the transport sector, the experts from science and industry have included several actions that Combined Transport KG has been demanding from politics in Berlin and Brussels for some time, especially in light of a very tense operational and production situation.
Leveraging Effect for Intermodal Transport
“A route pricing reform, compensation for additional costs due to necessary diversions, a reduction in the electricity tax, and exemption from the truck toll are significant initiatives with a strong leveraging effect to strengthen intermodal transport, shift transport volumes to rail, and thus act particularly climate-friendly. For the intermodal market, these are very good and supportive intentions that have now been confirmed in their positive impact,” comments Combined Transport Managing Director Heiko Krebs on the results and recommendations of the EKMI.
“Immediate Action is Required Now”
“Immediate political action is now required. The total closures of DB InfraGO as part of the general renovation and the currently catastrophic network quality leave no time for delay. Combined transport must become more affordable, more powerful, and thus significantly more attractive for the entire industry, starting from railway companies to operators and freight forwarders. Only then will the environmental advantage actually pay off,” Krebs continues.
